Opossum Removal

This is what you need to know about opossum removal in PA

What do they look like?

Opossums are actually marsupials although they are often confused with the rodent family. They are the same size of a house cat, about 2.5 feet in length. The silver coarse fur is accented by a white face and black paws. Furthermore, their pouch is the most distinctive feature which they use to carry their young.

What do they do?

Opossums are nocturnal creatures who enjoy solitude. Additionally, they eat almost anything; smaller rodents, plants, veggies, and garbage. While rodents and bugs are kept away, opossums can be problematic. They raid your garbage, steal outdoor pet food, and forage your vegetables. Moreover, they are skillful climbers and will wiggle their way into your attic. Opossums will also live under your shed or deck.

What diseases do they carry?

Generally, rabies isn’t carried by possums. However, they do carry other parasites which can be passed on to your pets. Their droppings pose a risk of leptospirosis and salmonella in humans. Also, they threaten coccidiosis in animals and equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (a neurological disease that affects the brain and spinal cord of horses).

How does opossum removal work?

There are no effective repellants or poisons to deal with opossum removal. Hiring an experienced wildlife technician is the most successful and safe way to remove a possum. At Backyard Wildlife Solutions, we locate, trap, and remove the animal. We only use traps and methods approved by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Furthermore, we repair damages and seal off any known entry points.
