What you need to know about skunk removal
Skunks are not the type of animal you want hanging around your home. When they spray, the smell is awful and tends to stick around. Quick skunk removal is a top priority for our technicians.
What do they do?
The skunk population in Central Pennsylvania is high; anywhere from 2-50 skunks per square mile. They commonly reside under sheds, decks, or porches. Furthermore, spraying is also used to mark territory. Skunks are mainly nocturnal.
Additionally, skunks dig three to four-inch holes in lawns. Pets are also sprayed if they venture too close. While the tomato juice method may relieve the smell, the skunk will not go away.
Skunks and diseases
Skunks not only smell but also carry a range of diseases. They carry rabies, canine distemper, and other diseases. Rabid skunks will be active during the day or extremely aggressive.
About skunk removal
All skunk repellant sprays are ineffective. Trapping is the most effective way of removal which requires an experienced wildlife technician. All traps we use are approved by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. At Backyard Wildlife Solutions, we carefully handle skunks to avoid any more spraying.
After all the skunks have been removed, we are able to install galvanized screening under sheds, porches, and decks. This prevents further instances of any other unwanted residents. We also recommend removing any outdoor pet food as it attracts skunks and other critters.
