Famous for their extremely potent odor, skunks are not the most pleasant of animals to have visit your home. Many homeowners are very wary because of this reason and want them removed quickly. Skunks are most active at night and while you may not see one during the day, you’ll definitely smell them if they choose to spray their erroneous odor.
Skunks can often be found in human dwellings, living under your shed, deck or porch where they may mark their territory by spraying. They can also be found digging holes in your yard which can be 3-4 inches wide and unfortunately for your pets, occasionally spraying them. Skunks are a common nuisance animal throughout Pennsylvania with populations ranging from 2-50 per sq mile.
Skunks and diseases
While their smell is common knowledge, the diseases they carry are less so. Skunks can rabies and canine distemper among other diseases. Rabies may show in unusual behavior such as being active during the daytime or being overly aggressive.
Skunk removal & exclusion
Ironically, there are no effective skunk repellent sprays which will deter them. The best method for skunk removal is to trap and relocate them. This can be a tricky job as most people are wary of being sprayed. The best method is using an experienced animal removal specialist.
