What do they look like?
Moles are rarely spotted above ground. However, you will recognize them when you see their shovel-like feet. In Central Pennsylvania, they range from four to nine inches (including the tail). Their bodies are cylindrically shaped covered in brown or gray fur. Moreover, we typically see two types of moles: the eastern mole and the star-nosed mole. The eastern features a pointed pink nose while the star-nosed has flesh-like whiskers.
What do moles do?
The eastern mole will set up camp in your yard, garden, or anywhere with well-drained soil. On the other hand, star-nosed moles prefer soil near aquatic areas. While these moles prefer different living conditions, their habits remain the same. Their tunneling tears up your carefully maintained lawn and garden. As shown, they also create mounds, or molehills, that result in disconnected roots and uprooted plants.
How mole removal works
We have over ten years of experience with removing these clever dirt movers. A large part of success in mole trapping is being familiar with their habits. Ultimately, it can require a lot of time and patience. By burrowing traps into their tunnels, it’s nearly impossible for them to avoid the traps. Once we believe the moles have been caught, the mole hills can be flattened. If damage is extensive, we recommend other methods to repair your lawn.
